Winter

Have been back in Oz just over a month after five weeks OS but only feel now I've caught my breath. The week I got back we buried my dear friend and legendary drummer Robbie Souter. A wonderful gentleman of Australian music who I performed countless shows with over nearly thirty years and played on many records I produced, from Karma County's first album to my last solo album Sonofobituary. A lovely, lovely man.

Played Dark Mofo in Hobart with Buried Country in early June then flew to Darwin and on to the Barunga Festival, a fantastic experience. Next week I'll be setting up at my fave recording space, Bondi Pavilion studio 1, to continue work on the recordings I made in Italy in April with musicians Aldo Betto, Giacomo Da Ros & Youseff Ait Bouazza and engineer Daniele 'The Chipster' Di Giovanni. This one has got a lot of story, some real 'funk' in the ensemble recordings, and I hope to bring the guys out to Australia next year to tour. See youse all on the mean streets... Brendo

Autumn/Prima Vera

I'm off to Bologna mid April to play a few shows with my Italian friends Aldo Betto (guitar), Giacomo Da Ros (bass) & Youssef Ait Bouazza (drums). I met Aldo over a couple of guitars at a gig in Tuscany in 2009, and subsequently Giacomo too, and have played with them many times since. I've yet to meet Youssef but Aldo tells me he is the bomb.

Then on to Porto Santo Stefano to record at Yellow Fridge Road studio with long time friend and former Karma County tour manager/mixer Daniele Di Giovanni. I've got a bunch of songs for a new album and can't wait to workshop them with these great artists. And maybe a little food & wine too, tutte bene!

Port Fairy Folk Festival

I'll be playing Port Fairy Folk Festival 10-13 March in many guises - Buried Country, Karma County, THE PINKS play the blues and one show playing my solo stuff with The SOBs - drum legend Rob Souter (Hepnotics, Slim Dusty) jazz bass maestro Jonathan Zwartz & young WA guitarist Doug Nairn. There are some sideshows too in Sydney, check dates page for deets.

After Easter I'm off to record in Europe with my friends Aldo Betto on guitar, bass player Giacomo Da Ros and drummer Youseff Ait Bouazza. Aldo and Giacomo have played with me many times in Italy since 2009 and now's the time to put something down with my old friend The Chipster, Daniele Di Giovanni, at the controls at his Yellow Fridge Rd studio in Porto Santo Stefano. Molto bene!

And a heads up for one, maybe two, special events as part of Vivid Sydney 2017. More to come next newsletter. See youse all on the mean streets... Brendo

Merry Xmas/Happy New Year

2016's been a big year and 2017 is shaping up as a cracker as well. Over hols I'll be mixing Paddy McHugh's new album - pretty much recorded live in the studio with his fabulous 5 piece band, raw, big and painfully honest. If they get on festival circuit in 2017 they will blow everybody else out the window.

Speaking of which I'll be playing Port Fairy Folk Festival 10-13 March in many guises - Buried Country, Karma County, THE PINKS play the blues and one show playing my solo stuff with The SOBs - drum legend Rob Souter (Hepnotics, Slim Dusty) jazz bass maestro Jonathan Zwartz & young WA guitarist Doug Nairn.

After Easter I'm planning to record in Europe with my friends Aldo Betto on guitar and bass player Giacomo Da Ros. We've played together many times in Italy since 2009 and now's the time to put something down with my old friend The Chipster, Daniele Di Giovanni, at the controls at his Yellow Fridge Rd studio in Porto Santo Stefano. Molto bene!

Sonofobituary

My new 6 track EP Sonofobituary is out NOW! Get your limited edition CD here

I'll be launching with my SOBs - Rob Souter, Jonathan Zwartz & Doug Nairn - at 505 in Sydney Friday 7th October. Tix here. More shows interstate over the next few months so check out dates page for more. Meanwhile give track 1 Town Hall Steps a spin.

I'll be in Melbourne in October as MD for two special Buried Country performances at Melbourne Festival. It will be a great theatre event with a diverse range of established and emerging indigenous singers and a cracking' house band.

Enjoying my time as an APRA Director in an fast changing music business environment, is hard to keep up. See youse all on the mean streets... Brendo

Summer 2015

No cicadas yet but it sure feels like summer. Silly season is upon us but there's a few things to be done before putting my santa hat on, mostly planning and preproduction for some big events next year - deets in 2016!

In November it was great to welcome my buddy, composer and former Go-Between, Amanda Brown to APRA Board. Looking forward to collectively kicking some goals for the membership.

Only a couple of live dates coming up before Xmas then it's time to hang out at the beach for a bit of R&R. Give the gift of music this Xmas with a Brendo Triple Set.

Meanwhile check out The Good Baker's Dream clip, my Xmas/summer song - peace on earth and cold beer at Xmas time!

Spring!

Now it feels like spring (apologies to northern hemisphere friends). Kutcha Ewards' new album is finished, sounds great. Looking forward to going out on the road and playing it. Have been doing some behind the scenes planning for some special events next year which will keep me on my toes. Stay tuned for more in the new year.

And it's coming up to a year for me as a director on the APRA Board, a great learning curve but something I am enjoying immensely.

Only a couple of live dates coming up before Xmas but will be going into the studio in October with drum legend Rob Souter to work on some new songs. See youse all on the mean streets… Brendo

Winter

Only 6 months to summer. Much to do. Almost finished Kutcha Ewards' new album. Should be out later this year and hopefully we'll be out on the road playing it live. It's a great record. Am busy in education too, teaching music business at Ultimo TAFE, production at Bondi WAVE and songwriting at AIM. And enjoying my work as a director on the APRA Board.

But I do love to play. Have just posted a bunch of new dates with Dead Marines, some shows with the band and a coupla mini tours around NSW and some special shows with Reels' icon Dave Mason. See youse all on the mean streets… Brendo

Autumn

My favourite time of year in Sydney. Have been busy doing some 'grown ups' work with APRA Board and associated committees but still making time to work on some new music. Have six songs in the bank for a new album. And almost finished an album as producer with the great Aboriginal singer Kutcha Edwards, watch out for this one.

And always some gigs here and there with THE PINKS, Dead Marines et al so check out tour dates… it's a full life. See youse all on the mean streets… Brendo
